I felt like painting loose today.. watercolors came to my aid!Its a beautiful day outside, and I loved painting this majestic animal in spontaneous style.In fact I intend to paint a small series on elephants in the same style- hence the name and number!

It has been some time since I posted anything here.I hope to break the 'dry spell' with this painting in pastels.

For last few weeks, I have not been painting much.Mostly I have been reading ,studying other fine artists;trying to figure out my own art.The break seems to have done me good, I felt happy painting this piece, after a long time.I guess we all need a break to retrospect, at some point.

This is a man for northern part of India, picture taken by a friend.I made some changes, though!

Back to pastels again...I used a mask this time, and it was great because it actually prevented me from blowing at the painting, even by accident!..The woman is from Ladakh region of India; reference picture from a friend. I like the slow build up of pastels.Definitely.

I have decided to work more on my watercolor.So far the dilemma has been, 'how much detail?' For the time being, I will be going with detail.Lets see if the realism suits my temperament.I have put in some effort here with the detail, considering that its a relatively small artwork.I think I will be working more on some smaller but more detailed work in near future- though I am not ruling out the pastels as yet.
Its a Pilgrim from Ladakh region of India spinning a prayer wheel. These hand held praying wheels are used by Buddhists of Tibet, Nepal and Ladakh. It is a metal cylinder containing a tightly wound scroll printed with a mantra.It is believed that spinning a prayer wheel is just as effective as reciting the sacred texts aloud.
Reference picture was provided by a friend who visited the region some time ago.
I welcome any comments and suggestion, as always.

Has anyone of you experienced the period when anything you touch turns to trash?...For past 10 days I have been quite frustrated- I am out of inspiration, out of subjects and frankly , out of my depth! Whatever I attempt to do; the result is usually awful.This is the one piece that looked only half decent-though I spoiled the background by overdoing it..I am posting it here in a hope that it will change my luck! 

She is a flower seller on the banks of the Ganga river in Rishikesh, India. The background was just light waters of the river;( may be I should have left it like that.) The day was heavily overcast ,so I could hardly make out her features.
